Beyond the Loss- Weekend Rewind

22 Feb

Series: Stressed Out- Week 4

Sermon Title: Beyond Loss

Sermon in a Sentence: Focus on God during a Loss

Bible Verses Use:

Genesis 23, Hebrews 11:8-10

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 7 out of 10

OV Attendance: 47 Guests: 2

CR Attendance: 10

Understandable Message: When Abraham lost his wife Sarah, he had two choices. Give up, go home and bury his wife. Or focus on the promise of God and continue on. In our lives we will have loss. Loss of loved ones, a move to a new town, an important game, a grade in school. In those times we can stay in that loss, or we can move forward, and allow God to use that loss to strengthen our character. No one likes to lose, but its through our losses that the win’s become so sweet.

Grade: B

Favorite Moment: Seeing some of the students open up about losses in their lives, and seeing God work through those losses.

Extreme Makeover- God’s Edition

18 Feb

Series: God’s Extreme Makeover

Sermon Title: Being beautiful on the inside

Sermon in a Sentence: How can we have the fruits of the spirit in our lives?

Bible Verses Use: Galatians 5

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 9 out of 10

OV Attendance: 55 Guests: Saves: 3

CR Attendance: 18 Guests: 3

Element of Fun: Roni opened the night with a riddle, and a cell phone game, and of course Kajabi

Understandable Message: To have God’s spirit in us, we have to invite Him in, and allow the spirit to flow through us even when we don’t “feel” like it. When I get cut off on the freeway, my first impulse is not to pray for that driver. However, I must make a conscious decision to go with what I should do, not what comes naturally. Because when I go with what comes naturally, I am capable of being me, and me can be pretty ugly. When our society wants to change, it changes the exterior. Things like plastic surgery, clothes, media, food are all things we use to make us feel better about ourselves. The truth is it does make us feel better, but only for a little while. What we need is to be changed from the inside. If I don’t allow God’s spirit to guide my life, I will never know all the benefits that brings.

Who or What is First? – Weekend Rewind

15 Feb

Series: Stressed Out- Week 3

Sermon Title: Here I Am

Sermon in a Sentence: Is God first in your life?

Bible Verses Use: Genesis 22

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 2 out of 10

OV Attendance: 50 Guests: 2

CR Attendance: 10 Guests: 2

Understandable Message: “Here I am” is a response that a servant would give to his master when he was called. Abraham responded “Here I am” when the Lord called him showing he was God’s servant. Abraham also replied this way when Isaac, his son, called him showing he was also a servant to others. In this scripture there is a ton of foreshadowing of what God is going to do with His son. I wont give it all away, see what you can find!!! Abraham’s test was not meant to produce faith, but to reveal his faith. Abraham did not put even his own son’s life before the will of God. That is some incredible faith! What do we value more than God’s will? What would we not give up? Friends, job, habit, boyfriend or girlfriend, etc.?

Grade: B+

Favorite Moment: The way that students saw the foreshadowing before I mentioned it!!!

Finish Strong- Weekend Rewind

25 Jan

Series: Elijah

Sermon Title: Servant- Finish Strong

Sermon in a Sentence: Focus on Him, and Finish Strong

Bible Verses Use: 2 Kings 2:1-11, 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 5 out of 10

Attendance: 50 with 3 New Students

Understandable Message: It is so easy to get distracted in our lives. My favorite example is from the movie UP, “SQUIRREL!” If we allow ourselves to get distracted, we can find ourselves so far off track, it feels like we can never make it back. In order to prevent ourselves from getting lost, and to finish strong, there are a few things that we need to do:

  1. Fix our sights on the prize- If heaven is our prize, we need to focus on Jesus!
  2. Train to win- Get in the word, pray, meet with other believers
  3. Expect there will be difficulties- Know that being a Christ follower will not be smooth sailing
  4. Find a coach- Someone who has walked longer, and further than you. Someone who is older, wiser, and will challenge you! (Think Mick from Rocky)
  5. NEVER give up- Do not settle for less than the prize! “I don’t wanna gain the whole world and lose my soul.”- Toby Mac

Final Thought: What is it worth to you?

Don’t Be Toast! Weekend Rewind

21 Jan

Series: Stuff

Sermon Title: Toast

Sermon in a Sentence: We should trust in God’s perfect timing

Bible Verses Use: Proverbs 3:5-6, Jeremiah 29:11

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 6 out of 10

Attendance: 48 Guests: 2

Element of Fun: Toast tossing game, and a popcorn relay

Understandable Message:  When we don’t rely on God’s wisdom and  timing,  we can end up getting burned, like the  toast. I know that in my own life, I have tried to make some big decisions, with out seeking God’s input. Most of the time I fell flat on my face, and ended up doing what God wanted me to do to begin with. Maybe its relationships, career choices, attitudes, or just some general guidance. We need to seek wise counsel, who better than the one who created you?

Grade: B

Music Playlist: Our Love is Loud, Blessed be Your Name, There is No One Like You

Favorite Moment: Worship band was off the hook!!! Oh and getting cut off by a student while driving home! Always funny

Final Thought: Who or what will I trust?
