All My Belongings- Week 3

18 Oct

Weekend Teaching Series: All My Belongings

Sermon Title: The Church

Sermon in a Sentence: What should the church be like?

Bible Verses Used: James 2:1-4

Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 2 out of 10

Attendance: 44

Service Length: 60min

Understandable Message: Today was one of those, get rid of the message you had planned to do, and talk about what God is speaking to your heart kind of weekends. The focus was on James 2:1 about the rich man and the poor man and how we treat them differently. We thought of these in terms of popular and unpopular, people who are in our group of friends, and those who are not. Students who are regulars, and those who are guests.

I shared about my own failure to look for those students who are not part of a group, those who are visiting, and are not yet connected. The fact that I am guilty of focusing on the students I know, the ones I have a relationship with, and in fact totally missing the new faces. Even those faces who are not new, but are not connected. It’s easy even for leaders to focus on the students they know on a deeper level. We all need to make it a point to be looking outward, instead of inward.

I posed the question, “What do you want people to say about our youth group?” and ” How do we make sure that we are known that way?”

My prayer is that God will continue to change all of our hearts. Help us to see those who are not connected, and to connect them with others.

Grade: B+

Volunteer/Student Involvement: Jayne(in her awesomeness) taught JHM and I taught HSM. Haley helped with the JHM.

Element of Fun/Positive Environment: We baptized two students today, one that was planned, and another decided today to get baptized! So cool, love to see changed lives in our youth.
