Tribes the Beginning

29 Sep

For the past couple of weeks I have been praying about starting the first of hopefully many Tribes. I believe that God is leading me to start a Tribe with a few of our 9th grade guys. If you are not familiar with what Tribes are they are essentially small groups for students. A Tribe is a group of 4-6 students of the same gender, same grade, with the same purpose and direction. To grow deeper in Christ, and to have authentic relationships with a small group of believers. These are closed groups, that will meet for 1 1/2 hours, in homes during the week. The main purpose is to grow spiritually with a secondary purpose of connecting students to each other, and to Christian mentor.

If all goes as planned, Tribes will launch in January for all grades 6-12 on all of our campuses. I am so excited to see how God uses these groups. I am in the process of putting together a leader training manual, to help leaders start out on the right foot.

What do we look for in a Tribe leader? Someone who loves God, and likes students. The lessons are set for the year, so there is little prep or studying for the leader to do. Using the Live Curriculum from Simply Youth, leader will be able to download everything they need for the weeks lesson.

Tribes will take a break during the months of June and July, reforming in August. My prayer is that the leader and the students will choose to continue together year after year.

I will update you of how the very first tribe unfolds.

Pray for me and for these students. I know God is going to do some awesome things!
